TUBERCULOSIS.
Under the County of Essex Combined Medical Service scheme
the Medical Officer of Health, Barking, 5s Tuberculosis Officer
for the district, an arrangement from a public health standpoint
possessing obvious advantages. The Essex County Council are
the responsible authority for the treatment of tuberculosis under
the Public Health (Treatment of Infectious Disease) Act, 1913.
The number of notified cases on the Register on December
21st, 1923, was 727, 365 being males and 362 females.
During the year 1924, 97 notifications were received of all
forms of tuberculosis, including 64 pulmonary cases; 32 deaths of
notified cases occurred, 46 cases left the district or could not
otherwise be traced, leaving 746 cases on the Register on the
31st December, 1924, 364 males and 382 females.
