Food Inspection.
The amount of foodstuffs surrendered owing to deterioration
or damage is related to the extensive work of food manufacture
and distribution in the Borough.
Under the direction of the various Departments of the Ministry
of Food, much inferior food material is received into the Borough
for manufacturing purposes subject to control by the Local Authority,
and the Sanitary Inspectors carry out necessary examinations
to ensure that only sound material is used; this accounts generally
for the bulk surrenders.
Two large wholesale Grocery Depots are within the Borough,
and hence surrenders of canned and packeted goods is to this
Authority; these surrenders constitute the major part of such foodstuff
noted.
