NOTES.—(1) Pupils found at Periodic Medical Inspection to require
treatment for a defect should not be excluded from this
return by reason of the fact that, they are already under
treatment for that defect.

(2) No individual pupil should be recorded more than once in any column of this Table, and therefore the total in column(4)will not necessarily be the same as the sum of columns (2) and (3).

NOTES ON TABLE I.
(a) The return refers to a complete calendar year.
(b) The age groups subjected to periodic Medical Inspection are those
prescribed by Regulation 40 (2) (a), (b) and (c) of the Handicapped
Pupils and School Health Service Regulations, 1945. Those subject
to periodic Medical Inspection under 49 (2) (d) should be included as
"other periodic Inspections." The age group or groups inspected
under Regulation 49 (2) (d) should be specified in the body of the
School Medical Officer's Report.
Regulation 49 (2) reads as follows :
" Subject as in these Regulations provided, the arrangements as to
the medical inspection of pupils shall be such that—
(a) every pupil who is admitted for the first time to a maintained
school shall be inspected as soon as possible after the date of
his admission ;
(b) every pupil attending a maintained Primary School shall be
inspected during the last years of his attendance at such a
school ;
(c) every pupil attending a maintained Secondary School shall be
inspected during the last year of his attendance at such a school ;
(d) every pupil attending a maintained school or County College
shall be inspected on such other occasions as the Minister may
from time to time direct or the Authority with the approval
of the Minister may determine."
