Section V.—HOUSING.
The following particulars concerning the number of new houses and flats erected during
the year, and details of the work carried out with reference to existing houses (under the
Housing Act and Public Health Acts), are given in accordance with the requirements of the
Ministry of Health:—
Number of new houses and flats erected during the year: —
(a) Total (including number given separately under (b)) 363 flats and houses
(b) With State assistance under the Housing Acts:—
(i) By the Local Authority 106
(ii) By other bodies or persons 82
The 363 houses and flats mentioned above as having been erected during the year
comprised the following:—
82 flats by the St. Pancras House Improvement Society, Ltd. (St. Joseph's House,
Drummond Crescent, 36; St. Michael's House, Aldenhani Street, 26; Pentland House, Wilkin
Street, 20); 106 flats by the St. Pancras Borough Council (Denyer House, Highgate Road,
44; Harmood House, Harmood Street, 62); 36 flats at Warren Court, Tottenham Court
Road (London Transport); 20 flats at 32-35, Tottenham Court Road (Viscount Gort Estate);
119 flats at Paramount Court, Tottenham Court Road (Paramount Court, Ltd.).
In addition, there were in course of erection at the end of the year 128 flats by the
Crown Estate, 101 flats by the St. Pancras House Improvement Society, Ltd., 108 flats bv the
London County Council, and 18 by the East End Dwellings Co., Ltd., in Cromer Street.
1. Inspection of dwelling-houses.
Inspection—
(1) (a) Total number of dwelling-houses inspected for housing
defects (under Public Health or Housing Acts) 1693
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 9727
(2) (a) Number of dwelling-houses (included under sub head (1)
above) which were inspected and recorded under the
Housing Consolidated Regulations, 1925 and 1932 1028
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 5573
(3) Number of dwelling-houses found to be in a state so dangerous
or injurious to health as to be unfit for human habitation 5
(4) Number of dwelling-houses (exclusive of those referred to under
the preceding sub-head) found not to be in all respects reasonably
