Public Health Department,
Town Hall,
Pancras Road, N.W. 1.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Metropolitan Borough of St. Pancras.
Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen,
This Report upon the sanitary circumstances and the vital statistics of the Borough
is the 81st Annual Report that has been submitted and is the third that I have had the
honour to prepare.
A summary of the principal statistics for the year 1936 is given on pages 12 and
13. It will be noted that a further fall in the population is estimated and that the birth
rate is as low as 13.0 per 1000 of the population. This birth rate is the lowest so far
recorded for the Borough.
The biennial epidemic of Measles occurred during the year and particulars, together
with comparative figures for previous years, will be found on pages 80-82.
Statistical information relating to London as a whole and for the different Metropolitan
Boroughs is given in the table on page 16.
I wish to thank the members of the Borough Council, and especially the Chairman and
Members of the Public Health Committee for the encouragement and assistance that
has been so generously given throughout the year.
I wish also to thank my colleagues on the staff for their help and co-operation.
I am, Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
MAITLAND RADFORD,
Medical Officer of Health.
