ANNUAL REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
FOR THE YEAR 1937.
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
Acton, W.3.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Borough of Acton.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit the Annual Report on the health conditions
of the Borough for the year 1937, and the Annual Report on the
School Medical Services is given at the end as a separate report.
The report contains the information required by the Ministry
of Health, and is arranged in accordance with their regulations,
but for convenience of reference certain tables have been grouped
at the end of the report.
The year has been on the whole a particularly healthy one;
there has been a reduction in the death-rate and the infantile
mortality. The district was comparatively free of infectious disease,
and the only notable outbreak was that of Influenza at the beginning
of the year.
There has been a steady development in the health services
and especially in the numbers of those who avail themselves of the
facilities provided. The most important development probably was
the institution of domiciliary midwifery under the Midwives Act,
1936.
