ANNUAL REPORT
of the
Medical Officer of Health
FOR THE YEAR 1932.
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
Acton, W.3.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Borough of Acton.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I herewith submit the Annual Report required by the Ministry
of Health, together with the Annual Report on the School Medical
Services.
The estimated population is that of the Registrar General
for the end of June, 1932.
The birth-rate is considerably lower than that given in the
Report for 1931 and is the lowest recorded in the district. The
causes of the decline in the Birth-rate are well known and have
been discussed from time to time in these Reports.
The Death-rate is higher than in 1931, but this is the inevitable
result of an ever increasing number of aged people in the population.
The epidemic diseases, especially diphtheria, have also, of course
influenced this rate.
The infantile mortality is slightly lower than last year and
the principal cause of death was prematurity.
The incidence of all infectious diseases was considerably
higher than in 1931 ; these diseases have been reported on fully.
two deaths occurred from Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis, but there
were none from Encephalitis Lethargica or Anterior Poliomyelitis.
Cancer is still increasing and there were 101 deaths.
