WHOOPING COUGH.
15 deaths occurred from Whooping Cough. The disease was
most prevalent during the early part of the year, and the southern
part of the district was mostly affected. 4 of the deaths occurred
in the North-East Ward, 1 in the North-West, 2 in the SouthEast,
and 8 in the South-West.
All the deaths occurred in children under 5 years of age.
TUBERCULOSIS.
There were 61 deaths from Pulmonary Tuberculosis or Consumption
of the Lungs, 8 from Tuberculous Meningitis, and
7 from other Tuberculous diseases.
34 of the deaths from Pulmonary Tuberculosis, 4 of the
deaths from Tuberculous Meningitis, and 1 of the deaths from
other Tuberculous diseases occurred in public and other institutions
outside the district.
Of the deaths from Pulmonary Tuberculosis, 37 were of males
and 24 of females.
Prior to their illness the persons who died of Pulmonary
Tuberculosis were occupied as follows :—
