January.—Sunshine about 140 per cent. average. Mean temperature about average. Rainfall
about 75 per cent. average. Sleet or snow on 8 days.
February.—Sunshine 30 per cent. above average. Mean Temperature average. Rainfall nearly
150 per cent. average in parts of London. Sleet or snow on 4 days.
March.—Sunshine only 65 per cent. of the average. Mean temperature about 1 degree above
average. Rainfall about 110 per cent. of average.
April.—Sunshine 115 per cent. average. Mean temperature about 1 degree above average. Rainfall
only about 30 per cent. average.
May.—Sunshine about 90 per cent. Mean temperature between 2 and 3 degrees above average.
Rainfall about average.
June.—Sunshine about 115 per cent. Mean temperature about 2 degrees above average. Rainfall
about 80 per cent. average.
July.—Sunshine about 80 per cent. Mean temperature about 2.5 degrees below average. Rainfall
about 140 per cent. average.
August.—Sunshine about 90 per cent. average. Mean temperature about 2 degrees below
average ; maximum 77 degrees at Regent's Park on 23rd. Rainfall about 150 per cent.

September.—Sunshine about average. Mean temperature about 1 degree below average. Rainfall
variable but well above average.
October.—Sunshine about average. Mean temperature a little above average. Rainfall about
240 per cent, average.
November.—Sunshine about 150 per cent. average. Mean temperature about 2.5 degrees above
average. Rainfall about 150 per cent. average.
December.—Sunshine a little above average. Mean temperature and rainfall about average.
Public Holiday Weather.
Easter (April 15-18th)
Good Friday and Easter Saturday were rather cool with showers in the afternoon but
Sunday and Monday were mainly fine with a good deal of sunshine and near average
temperatures.
Whitsun (June 4-6th)
Whit-Saturday was sunny and very warm ; at Kew the maximum of 80 degrees equalled
the highest temperature on a Whit-Saturday this century—the previous occasion was
1933. Next day was even warmer with a maximum of 83 degrees but some rain fell
in the evening. Whit-Monday was cloudy all day with slight rain at times;
temperatures dropped considerably and barely touched 70 degrees.
August (July 30-August 1st)
Bank Saturday was cloudy and rather cool with slight rain in places but Sunday was fine
Holiday and sunny with average temperatures. Monday was cloudy with showers at times and
a thunderstorm broke out in the afternoon ; it was rather cool, too, with afternoon
temperatures in the middle sixties.
Christmas (December 24-26th)
Christmas Eve was cloudy all day with a little drizzle in the morning but temperatures
were a little above average. Christmas Day was cloudy at first but the sun broke through
in the afternoon and it was mild. The wind freshened in the early hours on Boxing
Day accompanied by heavy and squally rain which finally cleared by about midday ;
there were sunny periods in the afternoon and temperatures were a little above normal.
