have been referred to the Public Health Committee, a similar course was followed in regard to this
bye-law, more particularly as the officers of the Department, including the Streets Nuisance Inspector,
are continually about the streets.
During 1960 the Council took out seven summonses. Three were not served but convictions were
obtained in respect of each of the other four cases, fines and costs amounting to £18 4s. Od. being
imposed.

At the close of the year the following additional sites were in course of redevelopment for housing
purposes:—
Church Street Extension (76 flats, with shops below)
16 Dwellings and “supermarket” in three storey block completed. Remaining
60 flats and 2 shops in 16 storey block due for completion early in 1961.
9/25, Cochrane Street (32 flats)
Work has reached roof-construction stage.
Further Development Linked with Slum Clearance.
Broadley Street/Penfold Street (30 flats)
Following the dismissal of the Council's appeal to the Minister against the planning authority's
refusal of consent to an increase in the permitted density, a revised scheme for the erection of 30 flats
has been adopted.
Ashbridge Street (East)—(16 flats)
Four properties on this site were purchased by voluntary negotiation and a Compulsory Purchase
Order made on the remainder, Sketch plans for the scheme have been prepared.
