Area of Borough: (a) exclusive of area covered by water, 1,427.8 acres ; (b) including area covered by
water, 1,473 acres.
Resident population : 1921 census—104,173 ; 1931 census—97,620.
Registrar-General's estimate of civilian population (used in calculating various rates in this report) :
1949—78,050, including 3,979 children under 5 years and 5,102 children 5-15 years.

Marriages.—The total number of marriages was 1,461, being 196 below the number for 1948 and 33
above the average for the previous 10 years. The rate for persons married in 1949 was 37 per 1,000
of the estimated civilian population.
Deaths.—The total number of deaths (937) shown in the following table is inclusive of persons who,
though normally resident in the Borough, died elsewhere in England and Wales, but exclusive of
persons who, though they died in St. Marylebone, were ordinarily resident in other parts of England
or Wales. Deaths of persons ordinarily resident outside the borders of England and Wales are
included in the St. Marylebone figures if they occur in the Borough.
