Population.—The civilian population of the Borough for the year 1941, as estimated by the Registrar-General, is
49,260, and this figure is used in calculating the various rates given in this report.
Births—Registration.—The number of births registered during 1941 was 460, being 70 less than in 1940. Of the
children born, 242 (192 legitimate ; 50 illegitimate) were boys and 218 (185 legitimate ; 33 illegitimate) girls. The
birth rate per 1,000 of the population was 9.34 as against 8.52 in 1940.
