MILK SUPPLY.
Analysis of Milk.
The quarterly returns as to the number of milk samples taken are as folly:
1st Quarter, 22; 2nd Quarter, 44; 3rd Quarter, 4th Quarter, 30, making a
total for the year of 110. No sample was found to be adulterated.
The sale of Milk Regulations, 1939, made by the Minister of Agriculture under
section 23 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938, are a re-enactment of earlier regulations
and their object is to provide, as heretofore, that a sample of milk containing less
than 3 per cent. of milk-fat or less than 8.5 per cent. of milk-solids other than
milk-fat shall "until the country is proved" be held to be " not genuine" because
of abstraction of the constituents named or the addition of water. A sample of
separated milk containing less than 8.7 per cent. of milk-solids other than milk-fat

1939.

20 samples were taken and submitted to the Council's bacteriologist for examination.

from concerned.
