INFANT LIFE PROTECTION.
By the Transfer of Powers (London) Order, 1933, of the Ministry of Health
made under Sec. 64 of the Local Government Act, 1929, the powers and duties of
the London County Council in connection with Infant Life Protection were transferred
to the Borough Council as from 1st April, 1933.
The provisions to be administered are comprised in Part 1 of the Children
Act, 1908, as amended by Part V of the Children and Young Persons Act, 1932,
together with the provisions in the Second and Fourth Schedules to that Act which
relate to Part 1 of the Children Act, 1908.
The transferred powers provide for the reception of notices given by persons
who undertake for reward the nursing and maintenance in a dwelling of infants
and the inspection of premises by infant protection visitors or other persons
appointed by the Council for that purpose; fixing the number of infants to be kept
in a dwelling in which any infant is received for reward; applications to a court or
justice for an order directing the removal of an infant to a place of safety.

As stated in the report for 1933, the Health Visitors were appointed Infant Protection Visitors and the following Table, which supplements the information asked for by the Ministry of Health, shows the number of foster mothers and foster children in the Borough, together with the work in connection therewith carried out by the Health Visitors:—
