Deaths from Phthisis.—Some reference has already been made to the matter
of deaths from tuberculosis and at this point it is proposed only to deal with the
figures relating to tuberculosis of the lungs (consumption or phthisis).
During 1920, the total number certified as due to this cause was 94, the deathrate
being 0'9 per 1000.
That this is the lowest figure for a number of years is shown in the table given
below. Christ Church, though, as usual, it heads the list, was the district in which
the fall that brought about the general reduction took place.
