Samples of so-called non-alcoholic wines were examined,
viz., two of ginger, three of raisin, and one of black currant;
all of these contained salicylic acid from 4.4 to 5.26 grains
per pint and quantities of alcohol up to 5.0 per cent, proof
spirit.
Samples of ice-cream were made of clean materials and
the various tinned and bottled goods were all free from
preservatives.
The following prosecutions were instituted :—

defendant did not pay the fine at once, and a warrant for
his apprehension was issued ; the fine was then paid.
On a subsequent occasion William Carlver of 19,
Wealdon Street, Stockwell, and Yeo were summoned,
both apparently being connected with the same business,
but this was denied. The summons, instead of being worded

against Yeo was dismissed; William Carlver was fined £10
