Messrs. Matthews, of 78, Charlotte Street, were convicted
of a similar offence, and fined £1 and £1 3s. costs.
Another large firm was summoned for a similar offence,
but the case was dismissed from a purely technical flaw.
It is to be hoped that these prosecutions will be noted by
all those engaged in the building trade and that no further
trouble will arise.
The owner of 48, Linhope Street was summoned for
allowing illegal occupation of the kitchens. Before the
hearing the kitchens had been vacated; it also appeared
that there was a defect in the serving of the summons,
therefore the Magistrate dismissed the same.
The Magistrate made an order for the closing of 9,
Gee's Court May 13th; four tenants neglected to obey the
order. Summonses were therefore taken out for disobedience
of the order, with the result that the defendants
were ordered to vacate the room within ten days, or pay a
fine of £2 each with 6s. costs. The premises are now
vacated.
