SMOKE NUISANCES.
The number of smoke nuisances detected or complained
of during the year is 13. All premises where nuisances have
occurred are vigilantly watched, but a recurrence of the nuisance
seldom takes place after an intimation of the nuisance has been
given.
TRADE NUISANCES.
Complaints of trade nuisances have been received, and
upon proof of the case, they have been abated in every instance.
UNDERGROUND CONVENIENCES.
I have supervised the work at the three underground
conveniences, and constantly inspected them both day and
night. Several repairs and alterations have been done ;
I have found the premises well and cleanly kept, and am able
to report satisfactorily on the work done by the Attendants,
whose duties are chiefly arranged by me.
PUBLIC URINALS.
Since the last Annual Report, the 25 urinals situated in
the Borough above ground have been placed under the control
of the Public Health Department, and it is my duty to inspect
the same for cleanliness and repairs, which require a daily visit ;
also to supervise the men employed as flushers ; these I have
found attentive to their duties.
RESTAURANTS, DINING-ROOMS, AND COFFEE-
SHOPS.
I have inspected 163 restaurants, coffee-shops and diningrooms
in the Borough, special attention being given to the
kitchens and all places where food is stored. The lavatory
accommodation has also had my attention. I found that 23
of the number required cleansing, and notices were served
with satisfactory results.

Appended is a statement of such of my work which admits of less tabulation :—
