Twelve specimens of blood from patients suspected to be suffering
from enteric fever were submitted by the doctors in attendance, for
bacteriological examination, five specimens proving positive and seven
negative.

As regards the source of infection, in two cases it was found that
the patients had partaken of oysters, one patient, a female aged 13,
had drunk dirty water from a ditch in Devonshire, in three cases the
patients appeared to have contracted the disease on the Continent, one
