Analytical Laboratory,
Town Hall , Paddington, W.
5th February, 1914.
A short abstract of the analytical work of the year 1913 may be of
interest.
A total of 506 samples were analysed, comprising:—
Milk 256 samples.
Butter 126 ,,
General Groceries 64 ,,
Lard 29 ,,
Cheese 14 „
Cream 11 .,
Margarine 5 „
Spinach 1 ,,
The only adulterated samples were dairy articles, viz.:—
Milk 13 samples.
Butter 3 .,
Cream 3 ,,
This year the total adulteration reaches 3¼ per cent.; the previous
year it was 2⅓ per cent. Milk this year shows 5 per cent. of adulterated
samples ag tinst 4¼ per cent. in 1912.
These figures are far below those for the rest of London and
demonstrate that Hampstead is especially fortunate in the purity of
its food supply.
