from the markets, morning and evening, the food being
stored under various conditions.
During the year special inspections have been made of the
premises where the food was stored.
Street Trading.—The London County Council (General
Powers) Act, 1927, made provision for the Licensing of Street
Traders which came into operation on the 1st November, 1927.
This Act provided that " it shall not be lawful for any
person to sell or expose or offer for sale any article or thing
from or upon any barrow cart stall or other receptacle
occupying a stationary position at a place in the carriageway
or footway of any street in any metropolitan borough without
a licence from the borough council authorising him so
to do." Provided that this section shall not apply to any
person selling or exposing or offering for sale any article or
thing from or upon any barrow cart stall or other receptacle
which he ordinarily moves from place to place in pursuit
of and while conducting-his trade.
During the year 148 licences were issued to street traders.
Fried-fish Shops.—The fried-fish shops are regularly and
constantly inspected for the purpose of ensuring conformity
with the Bye-laws made by the London County Council. At
the same time a careful look-out is kept on the condition of
the fish.
Bakehouses.—The 46 bakehouses in use in the Borough
have been regularly inspected during the year. Fifteen
notices were served relating to various defects, 15 being
complied with.
It was not necessary to apply for any summonses against
Bakers whose bakehouses were found not to be in conformity
with the Act, as they readily complied with the requirements
of the notices served.
