Two (—) patients dealt with by Metropolitan Police pursuant to Section 136, Mental Health Act,
1959.
One (1) patient was seen at Liverpool Street Station at the request of the British Railway
Police and returned to hospital pursuant to Section 29 Mental Health Act, 1959.
St. Bartholomew's Hospital
Fifteen (18) patients visited at request of hospital doctors and dealt with pursuant to Mental
Health Act, 1959.
Patients visited at Private Address, Office or Aboard Ship
Fourteen (10 patients visited at the request of various agencies for investigation, action
under the Mental Health Act, or follow-up.
Psychiatric Recuperative Holidays
One (1) patient enjoyed two weeks holiday at Heme Bay.
Day Centre for Mentally ill and Psycho-geriatric Patients
During the year, nine patients were introduced to, and started attendance at the Centre in
Tower Hamlets. Length of stay ranged from one hour to one day. One patient attended from
8.9.66 to 27.6.6? leaving to return to full time employment. One patient attended from 19. 12. 66
to 10. 2. 67 of whom trace was subsequently lost.
One patient attended from 25. 9. 67 to 20. 12. 67 leaving to resume full employment.
One patient attended from 20. 3. 67 to 21. 7. 67 leaving to resume full employment
Three patients are in regular attendance to date. A social Club operates-on Monday and
Wednesday evenings for patients and their relatives or friends. Light meals and snacks are
provided. The programme of entertainment and activities features Bingo, Records, Table Tennis,
Darts, Billards, Film Shows, etc. A quiet room is set apart for those patients who prefer such
environment.
Outings are arranged when finances permit, by the organisation of Jumble Sales, etc.
Persons maintained in Hostels
At the end of the year one (2) patient was being maintained in a hostel at Corporation expense.
Mentally subnormal in Community Care
One (1) young patient was in receipt of community care and regularly seen by a mental health
social worker. This child attends a Training Centre, and a Club for subnormals.
Number of Mentally ill patients in Community Care
Eighteen (13) such persons were in receipt of community care.
Salvation Army Hostel, Middlesex Street, E.l.
Twenty-eight patients were seen at the Hostel by the Mental Welfare Officer either for advice,
action pursuant to Mental Health Act, 1959, for follow-up, Day centre Attendances, Psychiatric
out-patient Clinics or recuperative holiday arrangements."
Salvation Army Hostel — Weekly Clinic
In addition to the report submitted above under the Mental Health heading, the following
report is also made on the overall aspect of work with the residents of the hostel.
The attendance of a Health and Welfare Officer and the Mental Welfare Officer at the Hostel
continues at weekly intervals to coincide with the General Practitioner's Surgery. The number of
men seeking advice regarding their health or social needs is increasing and more handicapped
men are being assessed and registered. It is now easier to follow up the men requiring treatment
at hospitals, particularly Chest Clinics.
SECTION 29 - DOMESTIC HELP
There was an increase in the total number of people receiving this service in 1967 from 56
on 1st January to 58 on 1st December. There were 12 new cases, all chronic sick, one under
65 years of age, but these were almost balanced out by the fact that 10 cases were removed for
various reasons.
