Both these samples consisted of unwrapped sausages and a notice indicating that the sausages contained preservatives should have been displayed in the retail shop in question. *Beef SausagesInformalThe sausages were mouldy and unsuitable for human consumptionAn investigation indicated that the retailer was carrying out an efficient stock rotation. The cause of the sausages being in a mouldy condition was finally ascertained to have been due to a break down of the manufacturers refrigeration plant. Appropriate representations were made to the manufacturers.
*Oxtail SoupInformalThe specimen was considerably below normal strength, containing approximately 60% of excessive water.It would appear that, at the restaurant complained of the tinned soup was not being diluted in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, as an excessive amount of water was being used. Following representations from this Department this practice was discontinued.
Potato CroquettesInformalContained sulphur dioxide, 80 parts per million, the presence of which was not disclosed on the label of the carton.Appropriate representations have been made to the retailer and to the packer of this commodity.
