HYGIENE IN HAIRDRESSING AND BARBERS SHOPS
Section 77 of the Public Health Act, 1961 empowers local authorities to make Byelaws
dealing with hygienic conditions in hairdressers and barbers shops.
During the year thirteen inspections were made and no contravention of the Byelaw requirements
was observed.
On 14th July, 1967 the Greater London Council (General Powers) Act, 1967 received the
Royal Assent. Section 21 of this Act requires all persons who wish to carry on the business of
a hairdresser or barber to be registered. The Common Council of the City of London resolved in
September 1967 that the requirements of Section 21 of the Greater London Council (General
Powers) Act, 1967 should apply in the City of London as from the 1st January, 1968.
