61 had been examined previously and were already using spectacles. Of these 56 needed
further correction and appropriate lenses were fitted to existing frames or to new frames of the
patient's choice.
Medical Examinations
During the year 560 persons were medically examined. The distribution by Departments and
the reason for medical examinations are shown in Table 3.
316 persons were medically examined for admission to the Superannuation Scheme; 14 were
rejected as unfit and 10 were deferred. The clinical conditions causing rejection are shown in
Table 1.
47 persons were medically examined owing to prolonged absence on sick leave. At the
time of examination, 20 were reported as fit for duty, 15 were reported unfit for duty, and 12
were reported unfit for further service. The clinical conditions causing unfitness are shown in
Table 2.
91 persons who had reached retirement age were medically examined and all were reported
as fit to continue in the Corporation's service for a further 12 months.
3 persons were medically examined for temporary appointments 4 were examined to verify
the nature of a disability and 7 medical examinations were carried out in respect of employees
at the Monument. In addition 102 persons were examined in connection with applications for
exemption from parking fees.
15 candidates for teaching and canteen posts were X-rayed and all were reported as showing
no abnormality of the lungs.
