STAFF.
The members of your staff in this Department carried out their duties with efficiency, tact and
courtesy during the year, and only on three occasions has it been necessary to have recourse to the
Courts to secure compliance with public health legislation.
At the end of the year, Mr. C. Slatter, your Chief Meat Inspector at Smithfield Market and
Mr. S. B. Murray, the Deputy Chief Meat Inspector, resigned after 43 years and 40 years' service
with the Corporation, respectively. Mr. C. Mellish was subsequently appointed Chief Inspector and
Mr. F. E. Thompson, Deputy Chief Inspector ; both these Officers have served the Corporation as
Meat Inspectors for many years.
In April, 1951, Mr. H. J. Aldhous, B.Sc. (Estate Management) resigned, having obtained an
appointment as Housing Officer to the Egham U.D.C.
One of your Rodent Operatives also resigned during the year.
It is with regret that I record the death of Mrs. Graham who had been employed as Bath Attendant
and Cleaner at the City Mortuary and Cleansing Station since 1927.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient Servant,
CHAS. F. WHITE,
Medical Officer of Health.
