APPENDIX F.
The County Hall,
Westminster Bridge, S^E.I
September, 1937.
Dear Sir or Madam,
SCABIES AND IMPETIGO.
It has been noted with concern that there has been an increase in recent years in the number
of cases of scabies and impetigo reported by head teachers of the Council's day schools, as well as in
the number attending the Council's bathing centres. Consideration has consequently been given,
in collaboration with the Borough Medical Officers of Health, to various measures which, it is hoped,
will reduce the incidence of these diseases.
There is reason to believe that in some instances the treatment prescribed at hospitals and by
general practitioners is not carried out in a satisfactory manner, owing to lack of facilities in the
homes and that, as a result, prolonged absence from school ensues.
As you are probably aware, the Council provides treatment for scabies and impetigo occurring
amongst children of school age, at a number of bathing centres in various parts of London. The
children's clothing can also be disinfected at these centres. No charge is made. I enclose for your
information a list of these bathing centres.
It would facilitate the working of the bathing centres if you would be so good as to advise the
parents of any cases referred thereto by you, to make appointments with the sisters-in-charge of the
bathing centres.
Your co-operation with the Council in the arrangements above referred to will be much
appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
FREDERICK MENZIES,
School Medical Officer.
