Holland.—All importations of meat, except certain approved salted and preserved
kinds, were prohibited in the month of May by an Order of the Minister of Agriculture, due
to lesions of Foot and Mouth Disease being discovered in unscalded pig carcases imported
into Scotland.
The effect, it is to be hoped, will stimulate the British and Irish pig feeders to supply
the demand for fresh pork which was so excellently carried on by the Dutch senders. Experience
in the City Markets showed that the pig carcases from Holland were highly satisfactory
as to quality, grading, cleanliness and inspection.
