PUBLIC HEALTH (IMPORTED MILK) REGULATIONS, 1926.
The above-mentioned regulations, made during 1926 under the provisions of the Public
Health Acts, 1896 and 1907, and Section 8 of the Milk and Dairies Act, 1922, come into
operation on 1st January, 1927.
No person after that date is permitted to receive imported milk which is intended for
sale for human consumption unless he is registered under these new regulations by the
Sanitary Authority into whose district the milk is imported.
A standard of bacterial content is established and the milk must be free from tubercle
bacilli. Should the milk not comply with this standard, the consignee may be called upon
to show cause why the Sanitary Authority should not remove his name from the register.
Any breach of the regulations renders the defaulter liable to a penalty of £100 and
a daily penalty of £50.
At the time of writing this report no importer of milk in liquid form carries on business
in the City.
