floors being let as shops. The Buildings contain 501 rooms, arranged in 241 tenements, and
are occupied by 777 persons, compared with 780 in 1924. 73 per cent. are adults and 27 percent.
children (under 14 years).
The number of births was 6, viz., 3 males and 3 females. The birth-rate was 7.7 per
1,000, which is 6.2 per 1,000 below the average for the previous five years.
The death-rate for 1925 was 13 per 1,000 per annum. The number of deaths of children
under one year, per 1,000 births, was nil, as against 60 for the City generally.

The birth-rate in these Dwellings reached a maximum of 46.9 per 1,000 in 1896, and ha
since been falling irregularly, but almost progressively. The rate last year was 6.4.
The baths, provided for the use of tenants of these Buildings, which were opened in
May, 1904, continue to be extensively used, the number of persons bathing during 1925
being 11,091, of whom 4,069 were males and 7,022 were females.
