Argentina.—This country continues to be the chief source of our beef supply and the
only source of chilled beef which is the class of meat in greatest demand on the markets.
The quality was, as usual, very good, but the amount of diseased quarters of beef and carcases
of mutton discovered on the market, although very small, considering the enormous supplies,
as will be observed by the following table, showed an increase. During the year Dr. Juan
Richelet, Veterinary representative of the Argentine Minister of Agriculture, arrived in this
country and is taking active steps to prevent as far as possible any unsound meat being exported
from Argentina to this country. For quantities of diseased tongues and unsound
food seized, see special tabulations.
