to discontinue his employment or occupation on or before the date specified in the notice,
such date to be not less than seven days after the date of service of the notice.
Provision is made for the right of appeal by any person who feels himself aggrieved by
the requirement of the Local Authority and the Court may make such order in the matter
as may seem equitable, and may award costs. The Court also has power, with the consent
of the appellant, to direct that he be examined by a registered medical practitioner nominated
by them. The provisions of Section 308 of the Public Health Act, 1875 (which relates to
compensation for damages sustained by reason of the exercise of the powers of the Act)
apply to any person who is affected by these Regulations.
The Regulations contain the proviso that a dairy does not include a place in which
milk is sold for consumption on the premises only. It will be seen that this omission places
outside the scope of the Regulations numbers of restaurants, tea rooms, etc., and it is not
easy to appreciate why such places should have been specifically exempted from a piece of
legislative enactment of such importance.
VENEREAL DISEASES.
The following is a brief summary of the work carried out at the Special Treatment
Centre for Venereal Diseases during the year 1925:—
At the beginning of the year 383 males and 145 females were registered on the books

to other centres, whilst 5 males and 1 female were discharged after completion of
treatment and observation.
In the case of gonorrhoea, 141 males and 35 females, out of the total of 165 and 37 of
