ICE CREAM.
The customary inspections in connection with the manufacture and sale of
Ice Cream were carried out during the summer months.
In instances where the place of manufacture was found to be outside the City,
enquiries were made in order to ascertain whether the ice cream was being produced
under proper conditions. Two replies under this heading stated that either
the premises or the process employed was not satisfactory, and suitable action was
taken by the Authorities concerned.
In one instance the barrow and utensils used by an itinerant vendor were
found to be in a neglected condition, and the barrow did not bear the name and
address of the vendor displayed in a conspicuous manner. Enquiries from the
Authority of the district in which the address given was situated showed that the
conditions there were satisfactory. This vendor was cautioned.
Infringements of the regulations were found at seven premises within the
City area. The occupiers were at once notified. Suitable alterations were made in
six cases, and in the remaining instance the manufacture was discontinued.
THE MILK AND DAIRIES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1922.
The supervision of the sale of milk has been continued throughout the year
on the lines indicated in my Annual Report for 1923.
Twelve new applications for Registration as Retail Purveyors of Milk were
received and investigated. Eleven of these were eventually approved, and one
was refused owing to the premises being unsuitable.
In two instances, the consideration of which was not completed before the
end of 1923, liberal periods of grace were given to milksellers to enable them to
make arrangements which would satisfy the requirements laid down.
In two cases radical alterations were made to premises in order to complv
with the minimum requirements of the Sanitary Committee for basements used
as dairies or in connection with dairy work.

samples 12 were formal and 2 were informal samples. There were five
prosecutions and penalties were imposed in each case except two, where the
summonses were dismissed as the defendants each proved a warranty.
