exceptions, were found to be kept in good condition and up to the standard required by
the Act. The defects noticed consisted of untidy conditions and want of cleanliness,
&c., but these were remedied without delay.
The Bakehouse formerly at Nos. 93-4, Upper Thames Street, has been discontinued.

OUTWORKERS AND "HOME" WORKERS.
As heretofore, the provisions of the Act relating to Outworkers were carried out.
The Lists of the Names and addresses of outworkers receiving work from the City,
were duly received both in February and August, without the necessity of legal
proceedings. Over 1,500 lists were received, containing over 1700 names, &c., which were
transmitted, with other details concerning each case, to the several Local Authorities,
as required by the Act.
There are but few "home" workers in the City, and these, together with the
outworkers employed in the City, are dealt with by your Women Inspectors, excepting
where men only are employed.
The following figures show the steady increase of numbers:—

Where employers had neglected either to keep lists at their premises or to send
them as required to the Corporation, notice was served, and in all cases complied with.
No case of infectious disease occurred at an outworker's place of employment
in the City, but 2 "contacts" with Scarlet Fever were reported. Enquiries were made
in each case, and all necessary precautions taken.
