VOLUNTARY SANITARY CERTIFICATES FOR KITCHENS AND
ABOYEGROUND BAKEHOUSES.
In January, 1904, the Corporation adopted a standard of sanitary requirements
for kitchens and aboveground bakehouses to be complied with by
applicants for Certificates.
Up to the present only three Certificates have been granted.
Two applications were received during the year, but were not proceeded
with.
OUTWORKERS.
The difficulty of getting employers of outworkers to send in lists as
required by the Act still continues.
With a view of dealing with defaulters in an effectual manner, all employers
of outworkers registered were informed by post of the requirements of the
Act, but out of a total of 376 notices issued only 162 firms replied, leaving
214 who either neglected or declined to send lists.
It has been decided to give notice to all employers of outworkers, in the
future, a short time before the lists become due. This was done early in the
present year (1906) with good results.
INFECTIOUS DISEASE AT OUTWORKERS' PREMISES.
Domestic Workshop.
Two cases of Scarlet Fever occurred in the children of an outworker. The
family consisted of 13 persons in all, the elder children being, with their
parents, engaged in the tailoring trade. The work was stopped immediately,
and every precaution taken to prevent the spread of the disease. After
disinfection the premises were thoroughly cleansed throughout.
