Thirty-six samples of spirits, viz., 12 of rum, 9 of brandy, and 15 of whisky
were analysed, and 2, or 5.55 per cent., were found below the statutory limit
of alcoholic strength.
No adulteration has been detected in any samples submitted of either
coffee, pepper, mustard, golden syrup, olive oil, cheese, lard, chocolate, vinegar,
or honey.
Of cocoa, only 1, or 8.33 per cent. of a total of 12 samples taken, was
reported against.
Of the sixty-five drugs analysed, 5 were reported against, as against 5 out
of 79 in the previous year. This is an increase of 1.39 in the percentage
and too high a figure, considering the importance to the medical profession
and the public of their being supplied with pure drugs.
