INSPECTION OF FOOD AT RIVERSIDE WHARVES, &c.
Special attention has been directed towards the character o£ the various
articles of food landed or stored at the several wharves and warehouses
abutting on the River.
There are 28 riverside wharves within the City limits at which food is
received, viz.: 7 in the East District, 17 in the Middle District, and 4 in the
West District. The following are the places referred to: —
EAST DISTRICT.
London Bridge Wharf Tinned foods; wet and dried fruit.
Fresh Wharf Tinned foods; wet and dried fruit.
Cox and Hammond's Quay Tinned foods; wet and dried fruit.
Isaacs' Wharf (goods landed at Fresh Green fruit.
Wharf).
Nicholson's Wharf (includes Botolph, Tinned foods; wet, dry and green fruit.
Lyons, and Somers Quays).
Custom House and Wool Quays Tinned fruit; wines, spirits, beer, green
fruit, &c.
Brewer's, Chester, and Galley Quays Little tinned food, with exception of condensed
milk; also wines, spirits, beer,
and general provisions.
MIDDLE DISTRICT.
Paul's Pier Wharf Frozen meat.
Brooks' Wharf Frozen meat and canned goods.
Kennett Wharf Frozen meat.
Union Wharf (under Cannon Street Frozen meat.
Station).
Commercial Wharf Frozen meat.
Trig Wharf Canned goods.
Lyons' Wharf Canned goods and general foods.
Smith's Wharf Tea, coffee, and preserved ginger.
Three Cranes Wharf Canned food, tea, coffee, and cocoa.
Dowgate Dock Wharf Tinned milk, sardines, margarine, and milk
Fishmongers' Hall Wharf Canned food.
Abbey Wharf Tea, coffee, &c.
Bull Wharf Tapioca, cocoa, and chicory.
Hambro' Wharf Sugar.
Red Lion Wharf Tea, coffee, cocoa.
Monument Wharf Tea, wine.
Tennant's Wharf Cereals and macaroni.
WEST DISTRICT.
Purfleet Wharf (Cold Storage) Frozen meat only.
Victoria Wharf Tinned food, &c.
Wheatsheaf Wharf Corn only.
Rutland Wharf Corn only.
During the year under review, 284¼ loads of unsound food were removed
from the above places by the Cleansing Department, and destroyed as trade
refuse at the written request of the owners.
