DEFECTS IN FACTORIES AND WORKSHOPS NOTIFIED
BY H.M. INSPECTOR OF FACTORIES.
The following are the particulars of defects found in factories and workshops,
and reported by H.M. Inspectors; also the steps taken by my
Department to effect improvement.
Fifty-four cases were thus notified in the course of the year, as compared with fifty-one cases in 1901, forty-nine in 1900, fifty-five in 1899, sixty-five in 1898, and thirty-four in 1897, distributed as under:—

9, Noble Street | Additional w.o. provided for women. |
16, Carthusian Street | Additional w.c. provided for women. |
18 and 19, Whitefriars Street | w.c. on second floor allotted for use of women. |
12 to 16, Maidenhead Court | Refuse removed from workshop ; separate w.o. accommodation provided for men and women. |
37, Bartholomew Close | Staircase approaches to workshop cleansed. |
5, Church Row, Aldgate | Walls and ceilings of workshops cleansed and whitewashed. |
25 to 28, Beech Street | Walls and ceiling of workshop cleansed and whitewashed. |
86, Beech Street | Walls and ceiling of workshop cleansed and whitewashed. |
75a, Little Britain | Floor and wall of w.c. in yard repaired. |
65, Finsbury Pavement | Screens provided in connection with w.c's for men and women. |
5, Jewin Street | Workshop discontinued to be used as such after notice served. |
3, White Street, Houndsditch | Staircase approach to workshop improved. |
13, Little Britain | Walls and ceiling of workshop cleansed and whitewashed and w.c's shut off from workshop. |
53, Fann Street | Premises not within the City. (Referred to District Medical Officer of Health.) |
22 to 24, Maidenhead Court | Separate w.c. accommodation provided for men and women. |
8c, Aldgate Avenue | Nuisance from overcrowding abated. |
21, Middlesex Street | Nuisance from overcrowding abated. |
37, Mansell Street | Walls and ceilings of workshops cleansed and whitewashed. |
14, Stoney Lane | Lock provided to door of w.c. used by women and the apartment cleansed. |
