In June, 1901, your Medical Officer of Health advocated a re-arrangement
of the sanitary accommodation at these buildings, which, although of the
most approved type at the time they were established in 1884, had since
become obsolete and unsuitable for modern requirements. Attention was
also directed to the lack of any provision for baths.
It having been decided to rectify these defects, the matter was referred to
your Engineer, who in August last submitted plans and specifications, which
were approved by the Court of Common Council in November, 1902.
Authority has also been given for the erection of a building containing
baths for the use of the residents.
Contracts for these improvements have been entered into, and the work is
now in hand.
