Deaths from Violence.
Of the City deaths, 8.03 per cent. were caused by injuries or violence (as compared
with 7.45 in 1901), being 0.52 above the average for the previous jive years.
In the City of London, the ratio of deaths from violence to deaths from
all causes, which had regularly diminished during the years 1896-7-8-9,
has shown a tendency to rise during the past three years (1900-1-2).
The large proportion of deaths from violence within the City as compared
with the rest of London, though striking, is easily accounted for by the
enormous concentration of vehicular traffic in crowded streets, and the greatly
increased danger resulting therefrom.
It is probably only due to the excellent management of the traffic by the
City Police that this mortality is not much larger.
