(10.)—She shall, under the direction of the Sanitary Authority, carry out
any special duties which may be required in connection with workshops,
laundries, and other places where female labour is employed.
In September a systematic inspection of workshops and workplaces in
the City was initiated on my suggestion in anticipation of the requirements
of 1901, and as a result, 745 workrooms were inspected, measured, &c.,
involving some 1,190 inspections (including re-inspections).
In 73 cases workrooms were found to need cleansing, whitewashing, &c.,
and on my certificate these were ordered to be cleansed and purified as was
found necessary.
Numerous defects of a structural character were also discovered, and the
owners or occupiers called upon to provide a remedy, but as this work was not
completed during the year, the subject will be further dealt with in my next
Annual Report.
