LONDON AMBULANCE SERVICE
The tables below show some aspects of the work of this Service and of its agency and
supplementary services in 1962.
Table (i) indicates that the number of patients dealt with by the accident section, 1,990
more than in 1961, continue to increase; that 39,324 fewer patients were carried by the
general section and 4,777 more by the agency and supplementary services. The decrease
in the total number of patients carried is a little less than four per cent. or, on average,
considerably less than one patient per hospital per day.
The total number of general section patients conveyed includes a number travelling
long distances who make the major part of their journey by rail; the Service moved about
25,000 such patients to and from London railway termini. Most of these patients were
conveyed at the request of other authorities; only 6,537 patients travelled under arrangements
originated by this Service.
