Appointments and retirements—In consequence of the changes in the organisation of
the department in respect of mental health work, Dr. C. W. J. Ingham, Principal Medical
Officer, who had combined this work with responsibility for staff medical examinations,
relinquished the latter duties in July to enable him to concentrate on the work in the mental
health field. Dr. R. Cove.Smith was appointed a Principal Medical Officer (half.time) in
charge of the staff medical examination work.
On 26 December Mr. A. J. Cridland, Divisional Administrative Officer for health
division 5 since 1948, retired after nearly 48 years' service, his place being taken by
Mr. E. L. Hannant.
On 25 November Miss E. M. Hazell, Divisional Nursing Officer for health division 4,
who had been seconded to the World Health Organization since 1958, resigned from the
Council's service to undertake further duty with the Organization. She was replaced by
Miss L. E. Arrow.
