(e) The classification in this table di ffers from that given in the comparable table on page 116 of the annual report for
1952 in that 20,583 inspections of secondary school pupils and 57,851 ' nutrition ' re-inspections were, in
that table, classified under the heading 'special' inspections. In addition that table included 8,077 inspections
of children in out-county residential schools and children's homes.
At general medical inspections about one pupil in six is found to require treatment
for defects other than infestation or teeth. The percentages of pupils referred for treatment
(other than for infestation or teeth) in the various age groups, with comparable
figures for preceding years, are as follows :
