passed either before or after operation unless absolutely necessary, and in a slight
difference in the incision in a two-stage operation to avoid inadvertent opening of the
peritoneum. There was only one mild case of epididymitis, and no other septic
complications. It is considered probable that many cases of sepsis after operation
are due to the passage or presence of a catheter. The low mortality obtained in
this series was due to the absence of septic complications obtained by this technique.
