A general sketch-plan of a similar school is, therefore, given to show these arrangements:—
In some parts of the country, for religious reasons, common bathing is objected to by a considerable
proportion of the population; and in certain schools arrangements for separate bathing cells are made.
The diagram illustrates such a cell system as seen in some of the Cologne schools. The objections to
this system are the want of supervision, the initial cost, and the difficulty of keeping the bathrooms
thoroughly clean.
Whilst in Germany a bathing-room is only intended for the school in which it is installed, in Holland
a centre system has been tried, and the plan given is of a centre which serves 22 schools, with a water
consumption of about 16 litres per head. It has been so successful that another is to be erected.
