The number of workshops on the register is shown in other reports, although the classification
indicated in the table has not been adopted. Thus in Kensington there were 270 laundries, 111
bakehouses and 1,187 other workshops; in Westminster there were on the register
some 2,037 workshops other than bakehouses; in St. Marylebone 2,291 workshops other
than bakehouses; in St. Pancras 1,109, exclusive of laundries and bakehouses; in Hackney
913, exclusive of bakehouses; in the City 178 workshops; in Bethnal.green 582 workshops,,
exclusive of bakehouses, were placed on the register during the year, the number of workshops on
the register being 700; there were on the register in Stepney 1,655, including 102 laundries, and
excluding bakehouses; in Poplar 40G workshops, including laundries, but exclusive of bakehouses;
in Lambeth 1,049 workshops, including 36 laundries, and exclusive of 214 bakehouses;
in Holborn there were 13 laundries, 37 bakehouses, and 191 other workshops, including a number
of factories and workplaces.
Information as to the number of factory laundries and factory bakehouses in the different boroughs is given in several annual reports. This number is shown in the following table—

The following information as to inspections and proceedings is derived from other annual
reports. In Paddington there were 2,468 inspections of factories, workshops, workplaces, etc.,
211 notices were served, and there were two prosecutions. In Kensington there were 1,964 inspections
of workshops by the female inspectors, and 240 notices were served; the male inspectors
inspected premises under their supervision from time to time, and notices were served when
requisite. In Westminster there were 562 primary and 917 subsequent inspections of workshops
other than bakehouses, 9 notices were served, and there was one prosecution. In St. Marylebone
the male inspector made 596 visits to workshops, etc., 456 to bakehouses; the female inspector
made 1,371 re-inspections. In St. Pancras 838 inspections and 154 re-inspections of workshops
were made by the male and female inspector, and by the female inspector there were 236 inspections
and re-inspections of 89 laundries; the male inspector also made 197 inspections and 125
re-inspections of bakehouses; there were also 375 inspections and 76 re-inspections of factories;
notices were served where necessary. In Stoke Newington "all the premises were inspected
annually, and the bakehouses every six months, 83 notices being served. In Hackney the female
