Death.rates from certain causes in common lodging.house population.
During the year effort has been made to obtain particulars of all deaths occurring in London
and institutions belonging to London among persons resident in or removed from common
lodging.houses. Very few of these deaths actually occur in common lodging.houses, as the large
majority occur in institutions, hospitals, workhouse infirmaries, etc. The male population at
certain ages as enumerated on the 14th November. 1903, shown in the preceding table, has been
applied to these deaths and death.rates at certain age.periods calculated therefrom. The rates have
been limited to males, as the female population in London common lodging.houses is not sufficiently
large to give reliable results. Objection can be urged on statistical grounds to the calculation of
