Section 50 Burials
During the year 1960 the Department carried out 79 burials at a gross cost
of £162. 8s. 4d which represents an average of £9 13s. Od.per burial.

The St. Pancras (No. 1) Smoke Control Area, the Order for which was confirmed
by the Minister of Housing and Local Government on the 27th February, 1959, became
operative from the 1st September 1959. and includes that part of Ward 7 bounded
by Euston Road on the north Torrington Place and Byng Place on the south, Gordon
Square and Gordon Street on the east, and Tottenham Court Road on the west.
Area No.2 includes the remainder of ward 7, was confirmed by the Minister
on the 26th May 1960 and became operative on the 1st December, 1960.
The third area consists of ward 8, and after confirmation by the Minister
on the 18th January, 1961 will become operative on the 1st October, 1961. This
means that after this date the whole of St. Pancras south of Euston Road will be
a smoke control area.
Investigations were proceeding at the end of the year in Ward 1 which it is
anticipated will become area No.4.
