The majority of the children included in the above table were brought to the cleansing
station by school officers of the London County Council under powers conferred upon them by
the Education Act, 1944. Payment is made by the London County Council at the rate of
two shillings per child in respect of verminous conditions, and one shilling per bath for those
suffering from scabies.
During the year the Council approved a scheme for the conversion of bomb damaged flats
at Prospect Terrace for use as a cleansing and disinfecting station and to provide office accommodation
for the rodent control staff. The work of reconstruction commenced in July, but
contrary to expectation was not completed by the end of the year.
